So, a broad mix of things – fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. A good reading year for me, I feel. There was only one book I actively disliked. I won’t name it as I don’t feel that’s necessary, but it was a book that had a lot of hype, an author I’d heard a lot of good things about, and I was massively disappointed. Anyway, I won’t dwell on the one negative – I read both John Le Carre and Michael Moorcock for the first time this year and hugely enjoyed both and have more of their titles lined up, especially for the incredibly prolific Moorcock.
Anyway, if you’re curious, my top reads of the year are, in no particular order: Kala, The Eagle Has Landed, Animals Eat Each Other, The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, Closer, The Cipher, and Killing And Dying.
And what did I get up to in between all of my reading? Well, I did a lot of writing. Something of a banner year for me as I had six books come out – four Tom Rollins’ with Full Throttle, Sudden Impact, Kill Switch, and Choke Hold, all from Inkubator Books; the second in The First Sleeper series, with Sleeper Run, from Aethon Books; and finally, 24 Hour Gas, a standalone Christmas crime story, my first Christmas story that I’ve been able to write and put out since 2019.
Anyway, on to 2025!
