I love comic books. Love them as much as I love novels. Comics were my gateway into reading.
Lately I’ve been reading The Incal by Alejandro Jodorowsky, with artwork from the fantastic Moebius. It’s a spectacular work, a mind-bending blend of science fiction, fantasy, and Jodorowsky’s own philisophical ideals.
Jodorowsky is better known, if he’s known at all, for his movies, particularly El Topo, and The Holy Mountain, as well as his aborted Dune adaptation. I have a Holy Mountain tattoo on my left forearm.
Not the best picture, but I took it one-handed and upside down. Jodorowsky is a hella interesting guy and I think I might talk about him at a little more length in my next blog post, which I’m looking to write tomorrow. My original goal for this blog was at least once a week, but it fell by the wayside a little so I’m looking to do one a day for at least this week to get back into the swing of it.
Anyway, The Incal. The art is exceptional, I’d heard a lot of good things about Moebius and he certainly does not disappoint. As for the writing. Well, I’m barely halfway through and it’s already been an absolute mindfuck of epic proportions. Jodorowsky is the living embodiment of that Dali quote – Don’t do a drug, be a drug. I’m either quoting verbatim or paraphrasing, either way the point stays the same. It’s proving to be a fantastic story and I’m glad I’ve finally gotten round to it. When I post about Jodorowsky I’m sure I’ll come back to it at greater length.
In fiction news, I’m still ploughing ahead with The Boy, hoping to have it ready to go sooner rather than later. Speaking of, this is where I’m going to sign off so I can get to work on it.
Onwards!
